Wow it has been a very long time since I did the weigh in thingy. And this time it will be exactly about what it sounds like...diet and exercise
Over the past year I have been just living not particularly paying great attention to my diet and health and I can see how that is a problem...15 re-gained pounds this year later....yikes!
I wish I was more disciplined in this area....unfortunately I am not as good as my sister who I admire for doing her clean and healthy eating. That really takes a discipline I don't think I have, at least not now. But I do know I can do it and that it takes sometime to move those extra pounds away.
Once again I really need to figure out some healthy menus for dinner and ideas for snacks. Breakfast and lunch parts of the day aren't a big deal for me it is the snacking and dinners that are my undoing...everyday. Why does healthy eating take so much preparation??? I also need to stop the quick and easy meals and eating out without thought......Why does being healthy require thought??? And it is time to get back to exercising regularly.....with the nice weather the walking will resume but I need to do more. For my birthday I think an elliptical trainer is in the cards and will be joining our household.... the low impact and the chance to move my whole body in my own home and on my own time should be a good thing.
so with spring beginning to spring I am now springing into a new attitude about health .....however not so happy with he springing ahead with the time, three days later and it is still kicking my butt....
Life is great!

Health
I am thankful for good health. We were given this body to do good with here on earth and you can't do much good if you don't have good health....physical and mental health. I am thankful for strong legs that I can walk with. I especially love my morning walks with Meg. We may not walk fast but we do get out. Unfortunately the weather is getting too cold to keep walking outside...I will miss outside walking for the next few months. I am glad that my body as flabby and old as it seems to be getting, can move with out much effort and can exercise to keep my muscles and heart strong and the blood flowing. I am thankful for a good mind that keeps things straight and organized. I know that it is important to exercise your brain just like it is to exercise you body.......Grandma Butters would read, do crossword puzzles and watch sports to keep her mind strong. I am thankful for good food and clean water that keep me nourished and healthy. For the word of wisdom that reminds me the importance of health and how to keep healthy.
Grandma Butters would ask if you had/were a long liver or a short liver.......in other words will you live a long life or a short one. She then said if you were a long liver you had better live a healthy life style because the longer you are around the harder it gets.....so true.

September Goals
Yes, it is the 6th and I am just setting my monthly goals. But I never feel like September begins until after Labor Day...and speaking of Labor Day, I hate it when we have to labor.....back to goals.
I mentioned the two big paint projects, actually there was one huge one and a tiny one and the tiny one is done as for the big one I am not so down with "Venezuelan Sea" now I have lived with it in a large patch for a week. I like it but it doesn't make me happy like the other colors of paint I have painted through out my house. It will be a great accent color for something....$45.00 mistake, It could have been worse. I am now leaning toward a great bright green color...surprise, not.....called Agave, you know like the cactus. It is much more me and makes me happy. I had a patch of it on the walls for a while and really liked it just not where I was testing it out.
Goals
1. Finish the big paint project. Which leads to several smaller projects: A-Reorganize & store the beauty supplies. B-Clean out the Mud Room. C-Get rid of the extra furniture in the downstairs family room. D-DI run.
2. Keep working on the diet or should I say health and fitness thing and loose 25 more pounds....I know not all of it in this month but maybe 5 to 10 permanent loss pounds by the end of the month. Meg and I walk 3 miles 5 days a week. I am slow walker but I keep doing it, yeah for me. As for the Diet- I weigh a whole lot less than it says on my drivers license, yeah! I think the last time I weighed this much was between the birth of Meg and Nelson, that would be 22 to 26 years ago....much too long. The interesting thing with weight loss is that you may weigh less but your proportions change, or the remaining fat rearranges itself. I have two clothing Items that I have kept around as goal clothing, lets just say the items fit weird and I don't think that even with the last 25 pounds I want to loose that they will fit any better....just interesting. This is something we are trying to remind skinny minnie Laurie about, she is frustrated by her clothing size; she weighs a lot less that she ever has, but she is still wearing her former skinny size and not a size or two smaller.
3. Find a new life path...I know I have been talking about this for several months now, but I really need to get going on it. Any suggestions will be considered.
4. Get ready for the Holidays...yes, this thought is a dirty word, but I would really like to be one of those people who is done by the first week of December with the decorating, shopping, wrapping, baking, cards, etc....
Fall is a favorite so maybe that alone will be enough to spur me on.

Getting Old Sucks....
and I'm not complaining because I am old, I am complaining for our parents.
Welcome to my Pity Party! ( I remember Mom telling me that pick the time I as going to wallow and be in my pity mood, do it and then move on).......so here it goes........
Gary's dad Bill, returned home at the first of June from an extended vacation in major pain and could hardly walk. A month later he had his hip replaced only to discover some cancerous tissue in the hip. They fit the hip back together with the replacement parts but told him that there would probably be more cancer and that his hip would never heal properly until the cancer was removed...... fast forward, the hip wants to heal and he is at a rehabilitation center, but the cancer is slowing the process. Now after a more extensive look they have found even more cancer, in his hip, shoulder and ribs. He is in a lot of pain and is now undergoing radiation treatments to stop the growth of the cancer.
My mom Sheri is having problems too.....her lungs keep filling with water. When she first had the water removed in May they checked her heart, kidney's etc... and only found that there were cancer cells in the liquid. She had all the usual cancer things checked out and they couldn't find any cancer, she seemed to be fine; that is until 2 weeks ago when she said she knew she needed to have her lungs checked again. Once again they removed the water, she then came to Bear Lake with us (She loves begin at the lake with the family more than Christmas). Of course not even 4 days later she had to leave the lake and get more water removed form her lungs.....They are saying that there are still cancer cells present in the liquid. They have also told her that there is a leak that needs to be patched and today they found a blood clot in her lungs, so they are putting her on meds to break up the clot and they are installing a tap, (for lack of a better word) that they can access to continue to remove the liquid that keeps accumulating in her lungs. They have given her oxygen to use at home to give her some breathing help and She now has to wait for 4 weeks before she can get the patch and they still don't know what to tell her about the cancer........Getting old sucks.
Mary and Lyle the spouses are troupers, each with their own ailments and aches and pains. They both have had knee replacements and with in the past 18 months. They tirelessly support their spouses through all of this, driving them too and from their Doctor appointments.
So what I am taking from all of this is that getting old sucks. You try and take care of yourself and eat healthy and be active, but it may not matter, the aches and pains and ailment will still get you in the end. Our Physical bodies just wear out eventually. I know it is all part of the plan, but this is the part I don't like.
Party over, I am done complaining, time is up. It is time to be positive and move forward. Life is good, it is an adventure and we all know that there will be challenges of all kinds while here on earth in our physical bodies. We need to do our best, love one another, learn and lean on the Lord and T endure to the end gracefully.
