It is summer and we thought it would be fun to do the sprinklers, however it was a bit chilly so we had a tubby party according to Captain Awesome!

Bummer Summer

My bummer Summer is finally coming to an end....nothing could salvage it. I don't know what it was but it wasn't memorable and had few highlights.
Summer is supposed to be the best, one big party, etc...but it all fell flat. I don't know if it was because we took our family vacation in May or that we have been so busy with church things or even if it was the weather, but what ever it was it wasn't fun.
Just like the summer holiday thing I am going to have to change and plan better so as not to do a repeat of my bummer summer.

First, last week of public school down....Hayden is loving it. I keep reminding him to be involved and keep tight with the friends. Football has been good....that is the second game of the season was good. We won Mountain View 23 to 14. (We lost the first, or should I say most of the team forgot to show up for the first game against Lone Peak). Hayden played a great game for both games. He is on the O line, which means no glory or stats, but he plays his position well. He opens up the lanes and blocks  so that things can progress.  I hope that the team improves as much as they did between the first two games. If they continue this progression there should be no stopping them.

Weather is lovely, but it is making me feel like a slacker. I have to get out and weed, etc.... On Saturday we did several "Honey Do" projects. I am glad we got them done, Gary probably  not so much. I also have two big paint projects set up to do this week. I hope my endurance is a big as my ideas.

What happened?

- So where did the summer go? I blinked and it is gone...unfortunately so is the time to accomplish my summer goals.....for the most part they were just wishes. I guess I need to be a better goal setter and follower.
- Today is the first JV Football game of the season. It will be fun to see Hayden actually play football. It will also be warm which is nice for now.
- School has started and wow, with only one in public school things are nice. It has been this way for the last two years, but for some reason I am really feeling it this time...I guess it is because Hayden can drive and doesn't need my help as much anymore. He seems to have a great class schedule for the first half of his jr year. He is doing the usual; English, Math, & History, along with Team Conditioning, Seminary, Musical and 2 choir classes.....I guess it isn't really the usual since he has honors and concurrent college enrollment classes......yes he is a smart one. He is also playing football, the leading male in the musical, v.p. of Phoenix Mens Choir, and has been asked to be on several committees and clubs........oh to be so busy and popular!?!?!?!
- 91 days and about 5 hours to go until Elder Call returns home to Utah....that is Thanksgiving Day at 7:00pm form LAX.
- Captain A is 7 1/2 months old. He is trying to crawl, and climb. He was so cute at Sunday dinner; we sat him up to the table with us and he tried to join in the conversation in his own jiberjabber way....so Call like to be adding his two cents to the conversation.
- So what happened ? LIFE! it keeps moving forward and you just have to hang on and hope that you are participating and getting it all done. Another season is about to arrive and it's okay, I will make more goals and plans and maybe this time I will get them done.

Happy July

We have been having a wonderful summer! We returned from our annual Cole family retreat at Bear Lake and are trying to get back to normal. We had an awesome time at the lake with weather ranging from cold to very hot....We played in the water, sand and under the sun. We ate too much had, lots of time to read and play games. I even did some painting while on the beach. I think I can safely say that we all had a good time together....but we are also all a lot older.

We had Captain Awesome with us Friday and Saturday and he loves the beach and the water.

Free Week

I realized this morning that this is the first week of summer that we have not been committed to something , someone or some project.....yes there are still projects but not dead lines for the moment.
Yesterday we had a wonderful time with J & L and Captain A. Boy is he growing up fast....he is becoming a little person. two weeks ago he hated being on his stomach, he still does, but now he is pushing himself up and is understanding that on your stomach you can get to things. He giggles and my favorite is when he is eating and says 'mmm' for every bite.

Hayden had youth Conference last week and had a great time. As the stories slowly come out it is fun to find out what took place. One of the craziest things was the big water fight. Our Stake Pres. basically said he was the reigning king of the stake water fights at Stake Priesthood meeting on Sunday. Well the challenge was made and the boys decided to get him big time at Youth Conference.....but Pres. Hanks had the upper hand on all of them and hired out a 20,000 gallon fire truck for his water weapon.....yes, he won, but Hayden says he better watch his back because revenge is sweet.

The First month of Summer is drawing to a close and i can't believe it....but time always marches on too quickly. This week we hope to get some swimming in.
Off to enjoy the heat and my yard.

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Summer

This morning I worked in the back yard and put out the beautiful new patio chairs that I purchased back in March. The chairs were a fantastic deal at Target so I took Gary in to see them because he always has an opinion. Anyway I wanted either the bright yellow or red chairs, but knew I was going to have to get the tan or olive green chairs. When Gary saw the chairs next to the bright yellow chairs he told me that we should get the yellow because they would look bright and cheery.........and they do look great along with my 75% off Pottery Barn umbrella. We now need to get a table and a new hook for the hammock stand and then the back yard will be ready for this summer.
The only thing better in the backyard would be a swimming pool......... AHHH DREAMS!

Turned on the sprinklers today.... good news only one broken head. I think this is the latest we have ever waited to turn them on. I guess that is what happens when the weather is so wet.

My Summer is Here...inspite of the weather

I declare it Summer......because school is out. That is how I have always looked at it. Crazy I know, but school will be done on Friday! Yeah I love having my kids free to spend time with me. I guess I should say kid...Hayden. My baby boy is the last one in public school, and we still have two more years. Just thinking of this kind of makes me sad..... Oh well, get it together Marcie.
This has been a crazy week so far. We did a Memorial Day program at our church....and by we I mean Gary, Megan, Hayden and myself. It went well if the accolades are to believed. I wrote a short presentation that Gary and I read. I had Hayden sing Tell My Father by Frank Wildhorn from Civil War and Megan sang Anthem from Chess by Tim Rice and the ABBA guys. They were fantastic if I do say so myself.
Tuesday was a double day because of the holiday. So I was very busy. But we got to tend Captain Awesome for a bit which was fun. Then I was frustrated because I told Megan we would do a 25th B-day party for her. The problem is that it is now June and her birthday is the 9th and I haven't even begun to plan......so we are now giving me 10 more days to work with...yeah!
Wednesday- Well being in a party mood we asked Hayden if he would like to do a brunch( he won't call it brunch) on Friday for friends since it's the last day of school. Luckily for me my resistant, not as social as you would think child said yes let's do it and then sent out a text to 20 friends.....good for him. So far he has been pleasantly surprised by the positive response he has received......he even said you could bring friends that I may have forgotten or don't have their number. Thank heavens he told them to let him know who they might be bringing.......he doesn't care so much but I am sure he knows that I would be crazy if I didn't have enough food.
Now to get everything ready for Friday morning......at least I will have a good start on getting ready for Meg's party!

Summer Where are you?...... and other Mumblings

The Forecast is for another week of spring rains....very unusual in Utah.
On the Radio this morning the announcer said "yeah, more rain to water the mushrooms that were once my lawn."
I guess a long spring is okay, after all Summer doesn't officially begin until Sunday.
It is very green and moist....but my garden loves it.
We ate radishes the other day from our garden. The Peas are coming, probably in time for me to leave town. The other veggies are growing rapidly.....especially the tomatoes.

Hayden has been going to Drivers Ed for a week now...he is a great driver. The only problem with early Drivers Ed is that he now thinks he can drive with out any of us, but he won't get his official licence until November 2.

Megan is doing B'way dance summer camp this week. She was thinking that there wouldn't be very many students....wrong she has 16. That is more than enough. They should have fun learning not only how to dance, but how to Dance and Sing different b'way style production numbers. She has a real talent with the pre-teen, Jr. high age students....they love her, and think that she is the last word on all things musical theatre around here.....it is pretty fun to watch.

For two weeks now the Missionary has had unbelievable weeks......I told him he must have been studying "How To Have The Best Mission Experiences Ever" text book......wouldn't that be a great book. Anyway our favorite thing he said this week is that his mission is "No party in the Pacific." What visual.

I have two weeks worth of stuff to do since I am vacaying next week.......tough life but someone has to help the travel industry. The extra work really isn't so bad, it is just keeping all the dates straight for the movie schedules.
Since we have been working on the Theatre website....still months to go until it is acceptable to go live......... so, I created the Kaysville Theatre Blog, on blogspot kaysvilletheater.blogspot.com
I couldn't get Theatre spelled this way I had to go with Theater( ends "ER" not "RE") oh well, you can't have everything you want. At Kaysville Theatre you find a customer created site, they last published a schedule in Sept. 2009, they also have memories. Hayden thinks it is strange....so do I.

Mmmmm the Smell of ......

I was driving past the city park today and the smell of fresh cut grass smacked me in the face! Ah the smells of summer. I know that spring is still deciding to stick around but there is something about the smell of fresh cut grass....Now I want to BBQ, love that smell and then there is the smell of watered lawns and gardens, sunscreen and melon....I need to stop already, or I will drive myself crazy. Spring smells are aren't as pungent, they are soft...blossoms, rain, fresh tilled dirt, lilacs..... And then there are the fall and winter smells...they are the most homey smells...spicy, sweet, pine, mint, pumpkin, bread, ... I could go on and on but lets just say I am a smeller...no I don't stink...at least I don't think I stink, but I like smells. I am not a super nose like some folks, but smell is a real memory sensor to me.
Food and floral smells can really send me down memory lane, but back to the grass....the smell of fresh cut grass takes me back to my childhood, the fun and games we had on 12th south here in Bountiful. Summer lasted for ever and not just the season, but the days, they also were long.
......Melinda and I would play, and play and play outside. We would build forts, play house, picnic, have races and play night games with the neighbor kids, sail junk down the gutter, climb the trees, play in the sand, we would explore and adventure all summer long, usually in the confines of our backyard. Oh to be so young , to have not a care in the world, to be idealistic and free....... I loved those times. I am so glad for the smell of fresh cut grass to remind me of that life.
