Happiness is Being a Grandparent

We were lucky enough to spend Friday night with Captain Awesome our Ry guy. We hadn't had dinner so we thought it would be fun to take him out to get something to eat and then some Ice Cream!!!
We were not disappointed it was way fun and funny.
It all started with the installing of the car seat in to my car. On Sunday when we were putting the car seat in the car I said "oh crap" and Ry told me we don't say that....Grandma was chastised and will now watch what she says...so back to Friday night; when we were putting the seat in on Friday he reminded me that I  shouldn't say 'oh crap' but say 'oh my goodness'.  He then told me that daddy sometimes says 'oh crap'.........  Got to love him.

We asked if he wanted to go to Five Guys or Pace's... He chose 5 Guys it was which was great with me. He had already eaten dinner but we knew he would like fries and a drink...however he wanted fries, a cheese burger and a wyemmamade (lemonade).  We went with fries, share grandmas cheese burger and wyemmaade. Wrong he wanted his own cheese burger and he wouldn't take mine. I knew he wouldn't eat it so we compromised with cutting my burger in half..... he didn't eat it.

Anyway all was well, we promised ice cream at the yogurt place next door. He kept telling us he wanted chocyet.  All was well we got our yogurt cups, but no chocolate...really. So after a scene we convinced him that we would go to a place with chocyet ice cream.  Then the fun began. We have forgotten about drips and messes. We were so glad we decided that we had to eat at DQ and didn't go through the drive thru.

We ended the night with a bath, and Finding Nemo!

Happiness is being a grandparent.

Chatty

Captain Chatty was over last night....he is so much fun!
He talks non stop  and has the funniest high pitched sound. He will repeat almost anything he hears and has a typical boy sense of humor.
Some of his latest funnies.....
We were saying the  dinner prayer. He fold his arms and in the middle of the pray decides he is thirsty he keeps  his arms folded and reaches for his cup and then takes a drink, all with one his arms folded. Now I know it is possible but who would have thought a 2 year old would figure this out.
At he same meal I asked Nelson to get us some pickles and all Captain would then say was picko, picko...and then proceeded to eat 5 dill pickle slices....and he would have eaten more if I would have let him. He loves tart food.
His food tastes surprise me and textures play a big part in his ability to consume.  He will try almost anything, however this doesn't mean he will keep it in his mouth...like I said texture will get to him before taste.
He downed half a kiwi fruit and like saying kiwi.
He knows that i keep my treats and snacks in a closet with a normal door and will knock on the closet door and ask for a gold fish or cookie.
Captain loves playing with the uncles......football is  a big run around with the little guy running from or after Hayden. Captain with his baby football shrieking over and over hike or touchdown and Hayden with his nerf trying to teach him how to hike or hold the ball.
He loves Hayden and last night when Hayden got home he had to shower and Captain wanted to play.....he would knock on the bathroom door and say Hayen. He tried to get me to open the door and when I wouldn't tried something new.....he saw the light coming through the bottom of the door and got down on the floor, he tried to put his fingers under the door (very reminiscent of my days with young kids trying to find a few minutes peace only to see little fingers fluttering under the door.) then he said "peek a boo I see you." I laughed out loud it was so funny. Hayden said I'm glad he didn't really see me, it might have damaged him for life.
He loves our iphones and ipads and knows how to use them. I opened a sound effects app on my phone knowing he would get a kick out of the sounds. He pushed the buttons and was amused, but reacted as a true little boy when he triggered the burp and fart button. He laughed and laughed and wanted to do it again and again. I said 'excuse me' when he triggered those the sounds so now he wants to play 'scuse me.' I guess we are all wired to giggle at those sounds. As Rachel says " farts is funny."

Love being a grandma...even though he says 'gampa gary' and calls me 'gama' or nothing at all.

Life Moves On

Today I have a funeral hangover......no headache yesterday but today the headache and body ache are overwhelming.

The day for the most part was bittersweet....good byes to Grandma were not fun.....but the memories are fantastic.

A couple of the best memories I will always have of the day are the thick feeling of family love. One of the Uncles said that this is what the day felt like, a day of love.
Another memory will always be my opportunity to lead the congregational singing. I was fine with the idea until i got up to do it and looked down at all the 'boobs' in the family crying....I looked at Gary and he was tearing up, so next at Megan who was even worse, mom was really bad as was everyone else. We were singing one Grandmas favorites "Because I Have Been Given Much" pg. 219. Since the introduction was coming to a close i knew i had to pull it together fast....I looked up and saw a beautifully smiling face in the audience....sitting there smiling at me was Grandmas friend Marjean Toone. Her smile kept me focused and in control for the whole song and for the closing song, "Love One Another" pg. 308. Later I told Marjean thank you for being the smiling face in the audience that I could connect with. She told me that she looked up at me and knew that it was going to be hard so she put a smile on her face and hoped that I would look at her.
She then told me a sweet story about taking Grandma to work at the temple for the first time. Grandma didn't want to be separated from her friend. She was nervous and told Marjean the whole way into Salt Lake that she wanted her locker to be near hers. Marjean told her that there were no empty lockers near hers, but all would be okay. Grandma kept saying that she was going to get things changed and that if they didn't she wasn't going to stay. Marjean says that she went to the locker room to change and waited and waited but no Grandma. She went to prayer meeting and looked around but no Grandma. She thought 'well she went home.' Just then Grandma came into the room all dressed and smiling. Marjean asked her if she got things all taken care of with the changing of the lockers. Grandma told her I couldn't change lockers, I was assigned locker 219....

For family home evening we went to Paces for a flatty with J & L, Mom, Adam and his family. It was a nice way to end our day laughing and talking about Grandma a life.

I am so thankful for belonging to a wonderful legacy of love and faith.

My goal with the coming birth of our first grand baby is to be a grandma like my Grandma Butters.

Can I Really Be That Old?

Last night Gary and I were told that we will be Grandparents this coming winter. While the news is very exciting, it also causes me to ponder......can I really be that old? I'm not saying that in years I'm not old enough to be a grandparent, after all I have friends my age who have been grandparents for several years now. But am I mature and wise enough to be a grandma............
My grandma Butters is now 93 years old and she has been my grandma for almost half of her life. She has been a wonderful example of what a grandma should be like..........spiffy, fun, crazy,.....get the picture, no sitting still and knitting baby booties for her and definitely not for me.
I am glad that I too will have several months to figure this whole thing out.

Congratulations Jordan and Laurie! This will be a fun adventure.
